Cover Final

This is my final over and I made it by slightly changing things from my first draft. But to get from my fourth draft to my final magazine cover I asked three of my friends for their feed back and what they would improve on it if it was their design. They all said that they would happily buy the magazine but they had some improvements that I took into account when I finalized my magazine cover.

The first person that I asked only had one improvement, which was to change the colour of the selling line. And the third person that I asked also said the selling line’s colour needed to be changed but they said that the purple didn’t fit in with the rest of the colour scheme, and the colour would need to be a turquoise to go with the background. But I changed the colour to a light blue, because the purple colour was lighter then the blue of both the background and the blue of the title and it went with the rest of the colour scheme better then the turqoise.

The second person that I asked only had two improvements; one was to have the model holding the splat that is behind the main cover line. I didn’t use this idea as the whole point of the model having her own colour scheme and not touching that much of what is around her, helps show the under tone of Gothic. It shows that she is isolated. The second thing that they suggested was to leave out the ‘about’ because it confuses the reader. I used this in my final cover.

The third person that I asked had three different improvements for my cover. They wanted the selling line to be a different colour just like the first person. The second thing that they wanted was the shape behind the main cover line to move up a little so that the pattern of the background to be seen. But with moving the cover line’s up so the whole pattern can be seen, it makes the cover look strange and wastes a lot of space. So I only move he cover lines up a little so some of the pattern but not all of it. The last thing that they said that I should change the effect of the shape that is behind the main cover line, so that it is shiny. I didn’t really like this idea, but I did change the effect to make it look 3D.

I also changed the colour of the shape as it didn’t look right with the blue text on it, I changed the angle of the text to, so that it looked more like it was on the shape itself and not just typed on top of it.

I decided that the magazine’s cover looked more like a cover for a Techno Goth magazine. So I changed the selling line to reflect this and will change the contents page for draft 3 so that the idea is carried on.

I changed the font for the masthead as it helped to show the two genres that the magazine is now going to focus on. The red of the shape behind the main cover line, works well with the Gothic side of the genre as it could be a blood splatter.

Image Choice
The image that you have used is very striking, but it has nothing to do with music. But that helps it fit in with the other magazines as their main images don’t normally have anything to do with music.

Masthead
I like the shadowing being just off to the side of the masthead, as it make it look like the masthead has already got some distance between it and the page, giving it a more 3D effect. And I liked your fuzzy font.

Cover Lines
I like the font of main cover line. And I like the contrast between the deep turquise colour of the background and the white of two of the cover lines.

Colour Template
I love the blue in title and the turquoise that was used for the background. But I feel that the purple doesn't fit very well with the rest of the colour scheme.

Other Design Choices
I like the background being a crumpled piece of coloured paper, as this makes it different to other magazines because they all try too hard to make it look smooth and without a single crease.

Improvements
- Change colour of selling line
- Shape behind cover line is hiding the pattern of the page
- Shape behind main cover line making it shine.

Image Choice
Like the dark colours and the way that even though the colour scheme of the image is different to the magazine, but still fits in very well with the magazine and with the way that it has been placed.

Masthead
Like the effects that have been used on the masthead and it helps it to look 3D on the page, this helps it to become eye catching and helps it to grab the attention of other people that walk by. I also like the contrast between the very light blue glow and the dark blue of the masthead.

Cover Lines
The white of two of the cover lines balances the darker colours, this give the text of the magazine a 3D effect and stops the magazine from being over powering. But I don't feel that the quotes that are under the cover lines are needed as the cover lines themselves are descriptive enough. I do really like how the main cover line has the shape behind it and its own space and it adds to the interest that the magazine creates.

Font Choices
The fonts that you have chosen to use make it very easy to read, even from a far.

Colour Template
The colours that you have used link in well with the masthead. Even though the image has its own colour scheme, it fits in well.

Other Design Choices
The deep terquez blue that you have used for the background makes image pop and shows off its separate colour scheme.

Improvements
- Model holding splat
- leave out 'about' (it confuses the reader by stating the obvious in the cover lines).

Image Choice
Good posse and nice way of using the clothes to show that Gothic under tones of the magazine. The bead spider was very well placed, and also brings some colour to the photo, and it also picks out the other colours of the clothes even though the text of the cover dose all that much.

Masthead
I like the name that was used and the font as this makes it stand far out and grabs the attention of people passing by. The shadowing really helps it to do this as it brings it out into a 3D sort of effect. The contrast between the colour of the masthead and the glow effect of the masthead also grabs attention.

Cover Lines
The cover lines being such a brighter colour helps them to stand out and be read from a far. I like the main cover line best as it sits on its own shape,  and this helps it stands out more than the others. The 'about' of every cover line being in the same font (but that font still from the rest of the cover line) links with the selling line, that it is all about more than just one type of music.

Font Choices
I like how there is not that many different types of fonts. I also like how with some of the fonts, the same font is used but is given a different effect to make it look at little different.

Colour Template
I like that it is mostly dark colours as that goes well with the three main genres that you have used and this also ties in really well with the masthead.

Improvements
- The colour of the selling line is to close to the sort of colouring of the background.
