the layers of the two magazine pages

I uploaded the images of the contents page and the cover. I then uploaded the different layers of the two pages so I could see what effect each part of the pages gave no their own and to see the effect overall. Some still have the background layer on, I did this so that it was easier to see some of the text and to see the images on the contents page. But I will still only be looking at the effect of the main focus of each image.

First the contents page

The contents page overall is busy but readable, it is also full of colour. The image shows the different place of the college and some of the work that people have done in the college for one of the courses. These give the effect that the college is there for people to work in and not just there for a joke. The images also use up the space with is left by the text, to promote the college. The shape behind the text help to make the text stand out but still make it readable. And the text itself tells you what’s in the magazine. I believe that the overall effect is inviting and show the busy live that most people live.

I made the back ground purple as it a unisex colour, this helps stop my magazine becoming biased. It also a solid colour as a base to start to build the contents page. Purple is a very welcoming colour, it shows how useful that it can be for most of the students, parents and some of the teachers.

In the placed the green shape and the page number. I put the page number in the right bottom corner as this is where it is found on other magazines. I placed the number in green shape as this makes it stand out against the back ground and I made the green shape that shape as it is more interesting than a normal rectangle that are found in most magazines. The first thing that the colour green make people think of is fields and blades of grass. This links in with the cover image of the magazine.

The image in the top right corner of the contents page show the work that two students have done as part of their course work. this promotes the art courses of the school. Even though in one of the pictures uses a lot of blue, which is an unforgiving, cold and sad colour, it still doesn't look that bad in with all the other colours. And with all the other welcoming and happy colours, it doesn't drag down the overall effect, it more or less just there to promote the college, as it shows the great work that you learn how to achieve.

The image in the bottom left corner is of the front of the college with one of the students leaving. The bright red bricks shows that it is a new building. And that with the blue (like cloudy) skies helps to promote the school as a hole. It also adds to the bright and breezes design, that is appealing to most.

The image in the bottom right corner is of the LRC. with this I have all of the main parts of the college covered, so that there is something to interest everyone, as you have the main image on the cover (for the social side), the top left of the contents page (for what you can achieve when here), the bottom right corner of the contents page (for the college itself), and then the bottom right corner of the contents page (for the working side). As you can see in the photo, the LRC has white walls, this is because, it is a soothing colour, so it helps you relax and get your mind set to work.

The text on the contents page is pink, this is a girl’s colour but some boys like it to. I used this colour as worked with the other colours of my design. It gives the title of the page and the info that can be found on the other pages of the magazine. And what pages to find it all on. Pink is a light, bright and happy colour.

The shapes are blue, which is mainly a boy's colour. But if I want to keep it from being biased, then after using the pink I needed to use a boy’s colour. So I choose to use blue, as it stands out from the back ground and keeps the balance. I moved the points of the shape to create new more interesting ones. I did this so that it would help to stop my magazine looking like any other after it had been opened. As other magazine mostly stick to what they know works which is boring rectangles of colour, behind the text. But I thought why not have the text lap on and off of the shape, and then there is so much more that can be done with the shapes that is under them.

The cover is eye catching and shows the most social part of the college. The different colours of the text is like what the other magazines do, they take some of the colours in the main image and then use them for the colours of the cover lines. I think this is a good way of doing it, as this makes the cover lines look like they belong on that page. But some magazine block out the main image will rectangles of colour so that the text is readable, but then you don't see the whole image and believe that it looks better when you can. So for my cover I made sure that you read the text and see the photo.

The main image is of the field at the back of the college which is where most students go between lesson, to meet up and have fun. That is what I wanted to show in my main image. So I asked one of my friend to take the shot with me, so that I could get an action shot and so that I could get the social side of it all. We stood under a tree to get the lush greens in the shot, to show the summery bright side at the same time.

The title picks out the two colours of the two folders that the female model is holding. The yellow and orange glow behind it helps it to stand out, and makes it readable against the green and brown of the tree. I choose to call it 'social college' as this is the main part of the college that I am trying to promote and it is a nice and easy name to remember.

The blue cover line, I got the colour from the blue folder that male model is holding (even though he is holding it the wrong side of his leg). It has the title of the article and a short description of what the article is about. Most of the time blue makes people thinks of cold, wet places but I feel that in this case it makes you think of blue skies and sunny places.

The green cover line, I took the colour from the tree. I tells you that the magazine is free, this keeps to most college magazine and why should they pay, they are students. It was hard to read so I did put this one in a box but I made the box interesting and it doesn't take up that much room.

The red cover line, the colour was from the red bin a bite behind the tree and a bit behind the male model. I choose this colour as it stand out against the greens but also because it is a striking colour and grabs the reader's attention. And as they are students it shows them the most important article to them of my magazine, the one about fashion. Red normally means danger, but using it like this, that is no longer the case, it just becomes a sticking colour that draws the eye.
